Why March 8th?
On February 28, 1909, the first National Women's Day in the United States is celebrated, and a year later, Clara Zetkin, leader of the "Women's Bureau" of the Social Democratic Party in Germany, suggested the idea of a International Women After a conference that brought together more than 100 women from 17 countries, IWD was formed.
In 1911, International women’s day was celebrated in 4 countries.
In 1977, the United Nations General Assembly called all member states to announce March 8 as the United Nations Day for Women's Rights and Peace. However, Eastern European women celebrated this day as International Women's Day.
